Many people will be applying for jobs in the coming weeks and months. Most positions will ask you to respond to selection criteria.
So, how do you address selection criteria?
Start by copying and pasting the selection criteria into a new document. Then highlight the key words. For each key word, make a list of your skills, experience, personal qualities and expertise which match those key words.
Then use the SAO approach to address each criterion:
Situation: where and when you did something
Action: what you did and how you did it
Outcome: what was the result of your actions
Lastly, proofread your answers. Make sure they are free of spelling and grammatical errors. They should be precise and relevant and they should be positive. It is a good idea to ask someone else to review your document before submitting it.
Whether or not you get an interview for the job is largely based on how you address the selection criteria
